SNORKEL AND DIVING
IN CANCÚN

In addition to all the urban entertainment that Cancun offers, since it has the most exclusive shops, the best nightclubs and of course beautiful beaches; this place also gives you the opportunity to enjoy diving and snorkeling.

Remember that the best time to practice snorkeling is during the morning, so while you are on vacation in Cancun do not waste any time of your day in bed, because there are many activities that are worth doing.

On the other hand, when you are underwater, let yourself go and take it easy because the marine life is spectacular and therefore you will live the best experience of your life. SNORKEL  AND DIVING IN MUSA

The Underwater Museum of Art is one of the largest underwater attractions of the Mexican Caribbean, located specifically in Cancun and Isla Mujeres.

This museum was founded in 2009 with a purely ecological objective, because it was born due to the high vulnerability of natural corals with respect to the visits of human beings and of course the importance for the balance of Planet Earth.

By having excessive visits from tourists, the barriers of natural reefs become more fragile, in addition the use of chemical tanning agents is highly polluting for marine ecosystems. For this, the creation of this great eco-friendly work.

Do not forget to visit these places and acquire the best tour packages with Aquaworld .: https://aquaworld.com.mx/

The areas to see turtles and swim are demarcated with buoys. We will only have to ask and inform us at the equipment rental stands, or at the ecological center of Akumal, which is next to the beach. To snorkel in the reef, which is a protected area, it is recommended to do it with a guide only by being controlled and advised on what can and can not be done. Nor was it very clear to me if in that area (the one on the reef) you can go snorkeling for free, but if you do, it is recommended to respect the rules of surface swimming (do not do apnea), and not to touch anything at all .

In summary, they are a series of basic and easy-to-comply rules to preserve the health of the fragile ecosystem, which, despite conservation efforts, is always affected by human activity.

SNORKEL AND DIVING

IN AKUMAL

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Escrito por : Nathan Siemers

What can I do to observe them and not bother them the turtles?

A lot and in a very simple way. You have to think that the Riviera Maya has experienced a tourist boom for decades, and human activity is not always in tune with the ecosystem of the place (to say almost never). Specifically, although there is no specific study (unless you know), there are posters, and the same guides explain that turtles can be a little stressed by so many visitors, and it is not for less. It is very important to maintain a respectful distance with the turtles (I would say a minimum of three meters, or more) just for being careful with them and nature. That means that we should never think about touching them (ever), and above all, try to get away from them when they surface to breathe. Imagine the stress it can mean for them to feed and breathe surrounded by people. Also, another important rule to see turtles, is that we do not stay with her for more than one or two minutes. We look at it for a while, and continue on our way in search of another species or something to see without bothering them for a long time (it is important to understand that the mere fact of looking at them closely and chasing them, is something that can stress the turtles).

What equipment do I need to snorkel in Akumal and see turtles?

The area of the bay is a reef area that is protected and threatened. That is why it is important to respect the rules and the equipment required to swim in the place. In the bay, the use of a lifejacket is mandatory, a way to prevent bathers from diving and, by default, to always remain floating on the surface without touching or affecting underwater life. Therefore, we can take our snorkel and vest equipment, or simply, rent it in the place. The truth is that I seemed a bit expensive rent, about $ 15, and as I could find out, in case we have the snorkel, we do not make a special price to rent only the vest, but we offer the equipment Snorkel and vest all in one package. For our pocket it is advisable to have our own vests. There are some inflatable vests that are very easy to carry in our luggage and do not take place.

What other rules do I need to respect to help preserve the environment while snorkeling?

Do not touch anything, absolutely nothing of the reef: neither the corals, nor of course any species. In addition to being prohibited, each coral, each fish, is part of a very fragile ecosystem. Just touching corals can damage them. Much less, think about bringing us something of remembrance of the bottom of the sea, like a stone. Another important rule is not to use sunscreens, and if they do, that they are biodegradable. The problem with sunscreens is that they accumulate in water that is not easily renewed within the reef, and are products that harm marine life, including turtles. In Akumal it is easy to find shade of coconut trees on the beach where we can shelter from the sun without using sunscreen if we think about swimming.

Can I snorkel anywhere in the bay?

The areas to see turtles and swim are demarcated with buoys. We will only have to ask and inform us at the equipment rental stands, or at the ecological center of Akumal, which is next to the beach.
